Everything was very straightforward, I was asked to buy additional insurance by Avis for breakdown etc, so it would have been useful to understand this wasn't included in the quoted price - if it was stated it wasn't obvious. It would be useful for you or the rental companies to provide more information on how pick up and drop offs work at the specific airports. Finding the drop off place a San Francisco was not great, as the address stated and google maps puts them in slightly different places - and the attendant joked that finding the garage wasn't easy.

The international aviation hub serving the capital of the Dominican Republic is the Las Americas Airport. The air hub is situated in Punta Caucedo's southern coast and about 27 kilometers to the city of Santo Domingo. The airport also serves the city of Boca Chica which lies 11 kilometers away.

Next to the Punta Cana International Airport, the Las Americas Airport is the busiest in the Dominican Republic with as much as 2.7 million passengers served every year in terminals. The airport is also among the largest in the Caribbean with spacious interiors and several facilities and services at the disposal of the passengers.

The airport has a post office for last-minute sending of mail and packages while the duty-free shop offers passengers a good way to pass the time while waiting for departure. WiFi internet and car hire in Las Americas Airport are also available inside the terminal.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
