Location information for Grenoble
Grenoble is a city in the southeastern portions of France, sitting at the foot of the French Alps at the point where the Drac River meets the Isere. Part of the Rhone-Alpes region, Grenoble is its department's capital. Since it is so close to the mountains, Grenoble is commonly referred to as the Capital of the Alps.
There are a number of communes part of Grenoble, but the largest are the suburbs of Fontaine, Echirolles, and Saint-Martin-d'Heres, all with populations over 20,000 people. All these suburbs are also easily reached with a car hire at Grenoble Downtown.
Due to its location by the Alps, mountain sports are very, very popular in Grenoble, both with locals and the tourists. Teeming with people both in summer and winter, Grenoble has a number of ski stations surrounding the city, easy to get to with a cheap car hire at Grenoble Downtown.
To get to the city, travelers can take the train or fly into the Grenoble-Isere Airport. And once in the city, a car rental at Grenoble Downtown is an excellent way to start exploring. Grenoble also has good links to major cities in the area so traveling on the road is also easy.
The Bastille is a main attraction in Grenoble, made up of fortifications overlooking the mountainsides of Grenoble. Because it offers great views of the city, the Bastille never runs out of tourists visiting. To further take advantage of the views, Grenoble-Bastille Cable Cars were made.
