Location information for Konstanz

The city of Konstanz stands in southern Germany with a convenient location on Lake Constance and close to the border to Switzerland. The city is literally split into two because of the Rhine, with the historic part of the city lying on the Swiss side. From there, downtown Konstanz is easy to access.

Arriving in Konstanz Downtown is easiest by train especially if you are coming from other cities in Germany. You can also come from nearby towns and arrive directly in Konstanz Downtown by train. Traveling by plane requires you to land at the airports of Friedrichshafen, the nearest German airport to Konstanz.

The old town center is pedestrian-friendly can be navigated easily on foot, but if you want to transfer to other areas of the city, consider using car hire in Konstanz Downtown. Head to the Niederburg district lying just northwest of the Old Town to explore the old buildings and narrow streets, which have been around for over 700 years.

One of the city's main attractions is the Munster Cathedral, but the harbor area is also becoming a notable destination in the downtown area. You can also use your cheap car hire in Konstanz Downtown to visit the Peterhausen district where you can find the Bismarck Tower.

Konstanz can be a base for visits to the Black Forest, which you can reach in about a 1.5-hour drive using car rental in Konstanz Downtown. Other towns and cities on Lake Constance such as Bregenz and Lindau are also worth visiting, or you can go on a day trip to the Medieval town of Stein am Rhein.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

Our rates are all-inclusive. Our reservation department will inform you in advance should additional costs apply. You can always cancel your booking free of charge if you do not agree (this must be done at least 48 hours prior to the start of the car hire period).

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.
