Beersheba is one of the largest cities in Israel, with a population of nearly 200,000 people. It is the gateway to the Negev Desert and is regarded as the capital of the region. The downtown area is restricted to a small number of streets; much of the city is spread out over a large area.

Most local travelers use Beersheba as a stopping-off point on the way to Eilat and see no reason to linger. On the face of it, it seems that Beersheba has little to offer.
