The instructions for pick up

The instructions for pick up should have said to call the staff for a pick up as it was a long walk in the heat and poorly sign posted. When we got there they said we should have called them for a lift!

The ancient city of Pompeii lies below the towering mountain of Vesuvius, and is probably most famous for the massive eruption a long time past. The Roman town was all but destroyed under layers of molten lava from Mount Vesuvius in 79AD but this helped to preserve much of Pompeii and give modern archaeologist an insight into life at that time.

The site is a UNESCO World heritage site and remains unique. Nowadays Pompeii is a district of Naples, but is still a big attraction for tourists who come to see the volcano and to tour the remains of the ancient city. The car rental in Pompeii Downtown is about a 40 minute trip from Naples Airport.

The alternative way to get here is by rail as the trains run through Pompeii on the mainline from Sorrento and Naples. The car hire in Pompeii Downtown is near to the Scavi station which is also the location to take time out by visiting the Roman ruins.

Nearby attractions for those visitors getting a cheap car hire in Pompeii Downtown are the coastal towns of Sorrento and the Bay of Naples. The resorts and beaches further along the coast are better than those close to Naples so a vehicle to take excursions further south is very useful and convenient.

Another day excursion could be to have a look around Naples, and the historical sights there. This whole area, with Pompeii, Sorrento, Naples and Vesuvius provides a varied vacation experience which most will remember.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
