The town of Cosenza is down in the southern region of the country, in what is known as The Heel of Italy. This is the more rural part of Italy and good to explore with a car rental in Cosenza Downtown. It is an area which retains much of the Italian lifestyle not seen in the big northern cities such as Turin and Milan.
It's in a location which allows drivers of a car hire in Cosenza Downtown to explore the province of Calbria at will. The nearest airport is about 30 miles away at Lamezia. This is an international airport with flights from the main Italian cities, but has only a handful of flights from Belgium, and seasonal flights from the UK, Switzerland and Germany.
The reason being that it is predominantly a holiday resort which attracts tourists during the summer, but not throughout the year. It does have a strong cultural past with a small cathedral, an imposing fortress and plenty of church buildings to admire.
The most impressive of these is the Castello Svevo which sits high above the city. The Cathedral is not quite such an imposing building but the Church of San Domenico most certainly is with its dome a landmark in the city.

This is in the centre of town and displays works of modern art donated by the Italian American art collector Carlo Billoti. Included in the open display is a sculpture by Salvador Dali.
